In pop music
videos woman are represented as slutty, Skinny, sexy and beautiful for example
in the music video (Partition by Beyoncé) Beyoncé is wearing little to no
clothing/sexy slutty dresses and dances on a strip pole this represents woman
in the media as slutty and sexy because of her body language, song lyrics and
clothing in the music video. Most of the time in music videos they get
beautiful skinny woman to perform in the music video this is what represents
woman as beautiful and skinny because that’s what the media show in music
videos and magazines. The purpose of doing this in a music video is to make the
singer more appealing so more people/mostly men will want to watch it which
will benefit the singer by giving her more views, more money and higher
ratings. The effect of this is the singer gets more ratings and gets more money
but it also gives people a false representation of what woman are really like
and this is what causes sexism, suicide, depression and anorexia because it makes
girls believe that’s what they have to look like to attract men (anorexia), It
makes girls tease other girls if they do not look like that (suicide,
depression) and it makes guys just think that girls are sex toys just there to
play with (sexism). Overall I think acting like this in a music video is bad
and should not be legal, I think how the media represents woman is absolutely
terrible and it needs to be stopped. Here are some other music videos that
represent woman badly in the media.
In the music
video Wrecking ball by Miley Cyrus, Miley is seen licking a sledge hammer and
swinging on a wrecking ball naked. She is presented as a whore, slut, stripper
and a prostitute. The effect this has on the audience is it gives them a false
representation on woman stereotypes.
In the music
video Just Give Me A Reason by P!nk, The song starts out with pink in a nice
dress but as the song goes on she is slowly stripped until barely wearing
anything at all, at the end of the video there is a scene with Pink and Nate
Ruess on a bed which suggests they are going to have sex. This is another
example of how woman are represented in the media, sexy, slutty and sexually
active. All these representations are what lure men in and are what make men
stereotype woman, which is what makes men sexist.
In the music
video Can't Remember to Forget You by Shakira, Shakira and Rihanna in this
music video are represented as sluts, lesbians and strippers They are
represented like this because of how they act in the video and there skimpy
sexy dresses. For example wearing underwear type clothe while lying on the bed.
In the music
video Starships by Nicki Minaj, Nicki is represented as a hoe she is
represented like this because throughout the video Nicki is wearing all
different types of sexy/slutty clothes presenting herself as sexually
attractive to make more viewers/men want to listen, buy and watch her music
video. I think this video is a perfect example of how people stereotype woman
as sexy, slutty and sexually active.
In reality
woman are meant to be treated equally to men but because of how the media
represent woman they are mistreated sexually. Men call woman fat and ugly this
is because what they see on TV is skinny and beautiful this is what makes them
think that’s how all woman should be which is what causes this/sexism.
There are
many more music videos like this but I have only described a few, if woman keep
getting represented this way in the media it will lead to an increase in rape
and sexual abuse. There was in incident in America not so long ago where there
was this case where this young girl was bullied into committing suicide because
she was being called ugly, fat, not cool and not wearing sexy clothes (wearing
nerdy clothes) this is a result of how the media represent woman. In America
every year 30,000 kids commit suicide because of bullying. If the media didn’t
represent woman like this in the media this young girl would still be alive,
this is why falsely representing woman in the media should be illegal.
